Bitmain involves itself in the manipulation of Bitcoin markets, and is mining against a popular change that 95% of the network supports. Bitmain is profiting greatly off the controversy — keeping fees high and harming the livelihoods of other people who rely on Bitcoin.
If Bitmain were an apolitical actor, they would not be at risk of a political backlash. Some companies go out of their way to remain neutral on political battles. Others choose to engage.
Uber has to deal with boycotts, vandalism and picket lines on a daily basis. Lyft … almost nobody complains about it except Uber.
