Quantum computing is dead: time to move on

Quantum computing is a wonderful dream: limitless computing capable of pushing humanity and artificial beyond the limitations of the physical world.

But is there a speed limit to computing? Much like the speed of light limits the ability to travel through space without altering time, is it possible that limits on error correction prevent computing speeds beyond a theoretical maximum?

I wrote this article as a “holding pen” for a list of research and researchers that know a lot more than me and are convinced that quantum computing may, some day, be proven impossible — much like faster than light travel.

Some important quotes from the articles linked below:

A useful quantum computer needs to process a set of continuous parameters that is larger than the number of subatomic particles in the observable universe

Nobody has figured out exactly how we are going to control such large quantum systems while keeping errors in check.

“Quantum computers won’t solve hard problems instantly by just trying all solutions in parallel.”
