So you must be in favor of zero-conf as the solution for using bitcoin as a payments system? LN is a network designed to allow Bitcoin to be used as a payment system. It does not, by itself, scale bitcoin. Extension blocks can be used to scale bitcoin, and indeed, they should be used right after segwit goes live, and after the impact of a block size doubling can be researched and proven.

Panic-altering the protocol 10x today is also not the right solution. Maybe we can run with 2.1MB for a month, and then, if that doesn’t work out, we can try 8MB (using a 6MB extension block soft fork).

Sounds much more reasonable. But maybe you are right. But, if so, you’re better off just buying DASH. Why change bitcoin?
